Activities

GC/MSn e LC/MSn hyphenated techniques. NMR based metabolomics for biomarker identification in biological complex matrices. “Targeted” lipidomics approaches for the identification of bioactive lipids through LC-MS e LC-MS-MS techniques. Biomolecular characterization of phytocomplexes (essential oils and extracts) from wild and cultivated medicinal plants. Analysis of spectral data of biological samples (blood, urine, saliva, breath condensate), in vivo cells, cellular extracts, tissue extract, microalgae.

 

Expertise

Qualitative and quantitative biomarker analysis in complex matrices for studies in marine ecology, biomedicine, pharmacology and nutrition science. Metabolomics, pharmacokinetic and phytochemical studies. Profiling of endocannabinoids and bioactive lipids with role in human pathologies through lipidomic approaches. Multivariate statistical analysis and hierarchical classification, data projection and filtering methods, pattern recognition techniques for modelling, classification and prediction.

GENETIC BIOMARKERS (GENOMICS AND TRANCRIPTOMICS)


Activities

Identification and characterization of molecular alterations in genes participating in the pathogenesis of solid neoplasies (melanoma, colorectal carcinoma, breast carcinoma). Identification and characterization of cytogenetic alterations involved in tumorigenesis. Translational and associative studies between genetic-molecular and clinical-pathological data. Study of the molecular mechanisms underlying neurological (pediatric epilepsies) and muscular (dystrophies) pathologies.

 

Expertise

Mutational analysis in samples of DNA/RNA from blood, cultured cells, tissues (frozen or included in paraffin) by means of PCR, sequencing using the Sanger method, DHPLC, pyrosequencing and “Next Generation Sequencing”. Cytogenetic analyses by means of fluorescence in situ hybridization. Expression studies by means of qPCR, Western Blot, Immunofluorescence.

Activities

Use of cellular and animal models for the study of molecular mechanisms modulated by endocannabinoids and endovanilloids in the control of the pathophysiology of synaptic plasticity, whose dysregulation is at the basis of several neurological pathologies, including epilepsy, neuropathic pain, Duchenne’s dystrophy, obesity, drug dependence and neurodegenerative and psychiatric conditions.

 

Expertise

Microdissection of cerebral areas for the establishment of primary neuronal cultures and organotypic slices. Transfection of primary and secondary cell lines. Chromatin Immunoprecipitation assays. Luciferase assays. Advanced microscopy: optical/confocal/electron. Fluorescence-Resonance-Energy-Transfer (FRET). Fluorescence-Recovery-after-Bleaching (FRAP). Molecular tracking, calcium imaging e cell motility in time lapse imaging. Patch clamp electrophysiology. Cryosectioning on micrometric and nanometric scale.
